  • Overview

    The Database Administrator performs low- to medium-complex database management tasks. He/she monitors and supports the database daily and proactively performs ongoing database analysis. The position is guided by the senior database administrator to continuously acquire new skills and increase job responsibility.

    Responsibilities

    Main Duties and Responsibilities:

    • DB tuning and query tuning
    • Update and modify database structure and data
    • Ensure database integrity, stability and availability
    • Implements the physical design
    • Participates in conversion and migration activities
    • Implements and supports back-up and recovery procedures as needed for all production and test databases
    • Provides technical consultation to the development staff
    • Participates in management and user committees in setting performance objectives
    • Monitors and tunes database performance to meet performance objectives
    • Participates in IT committees to develop database standards
    • Participates in IT committees to create standards for database utilization
    • Maintains strong vendor relationships to keep apprised of new database products, versions, and releases
    • Participates in the evaluation, recommendation, and installation of new versions, releases and database tools
    • Works with application developers and other organizations within the enterprise to evaluate database requirements for application software packages under consideration
    • Manages and monitors storage capacity
    • Participates in evaluation, recommendation, and in the installation of new storage media
    • Supports operations staff with their production databases
    • Works with programmers to tune data access code
    • Coordinates with engineering staff to ensure consistency in planning and implementation efforts
    • Responds to and assists with other problem tickets as required
    • Adheres to other defined SOPs as required
    • Performs other duties as assigned
    • Must adhere to the Seminole Tribe's Policies and Procedures
    • Works on multiple high priority projects concurrently
    • Employs productivity aids in all aspects of assignments
    • Maintains and enhances technical skills through formal and on-the-job training
    • Designs and develops points of integration and interface to other applications
    • Develops a general understanding of technology infrastructures
    • Opens up problem reporting tickets and accurately uses all problem tracking software systems

    Qualifications

    Skills & Experience Requirements:

    • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience – required
    • Minimum 2-4 years experience in an IT organization and/or equivalent application or business experience – recommended
    • MS Database certification
    • Strong knowledge of logical design and physical implementation
    • Knowledge of enterprise hardware and operations systems
    • Efficient in one or more programming languages with excellent writing skills
    • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to deal with a diverse range of people, which includes the upper levels of corporate management
    • Self sufficient, requiring limited supervision over job knowledge, expectations and successful project completion
