Overview

This position is responsible for data management, financial reporting, accounting, invoicing, and analysis for the licensed and managed hotel and casino properties, the franchised cafes as well as online gaming. This role reports directly to finance but interfaces extensively with the Hotel, Casino and Online gaming division management teams.

Responsibilities

BUSINESS RESULTS:

  • Liaise with the Hotel, Casino and Online gaming division management to understand status of new and on-going projects.
  • Oversee Manager- Hotel accounting, responsible for new openings of Hard Rock managed hotels and related pre-opening training of hotel finance staff.
  • Oversee AR Accountants and ensure that accurate calculation of monthly hotel, casino and online gaming revenue streams for all partner properties. Verify financial data from partner properties and reconcile monthly estimated fees to actual fees.
  • Monitor all financial aspects of hotel, casino and online gaming contracts for compliance with fee structures, adherence to GAAP revenue recognition standards and company policies, and provision of contractual reporting.
  • Coordinate with other departments, e.g. memorabilia, legal, project development to ensure all contractual elements are captured in billings.

  • Calculate and prepare invoices by revenue type for all hotel and casino locations and online gaming partners.
  • Oversee billing for development hotel projects

  • Coordinate with AR Accountants to ensure all invoices are recorded in the correct legal entity and cash receipts applied to the correct invoices.

  • Review AR aging and follow-up with properties on uncollected balances.   Understand analysis for bad debt provisions.

  • Review the deferred revenue schedules and provide updates for timing of recognition of revenue (in accordance with the new US GAAP revenue recognition standard.

  • Coordinate with tax department to ensure compliance with withholding tax laws as well as work with the AR Accountants to compile tax certificates on an annual basis.

  • Prepare, analyze, audit and distribute monthly reporting packages for business unit leadership and finance, including: 
  1. Hotel and Casino Period Results
  2. Online gaming Profit and Loss

  3. Monthly Smith Travel Reports

  4. Property snapshots

  5. VP summaries

  6. Ad hoc reporting as necessary
  • Prepare quarterly and annual information required for external financial reporting and the external audit process for both consolidated and statutory reporting.
  • Manage and review hotel and casino reimbursable expenses for the following:
  1. Memo Installations and remodels
  2. Technical services
  3. Pre-opening expenses
  4. Termination payments
  5. System expenses

  6. Mystery shopper
  7. Other reimbursable costs
  • Facilitate process of collecting forecast and budget information from partner properties.
  • Coordinate with systems owners to automate and improve processes surrounding data input, invoicing, report generation and integration with new hotel reporting systems.

 

LEARNING & EXECUTION:

  • Periodically review processes and procedures for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ensure business unit reporting needs are met to develop and monitor the business.

LEARNING & APPLYING EXPERTISE:

  • Obtain a thorough understanding of reporting systems and use to improve efficiency, accuracy and timeliness of process and reporting.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or finance
  • Strong US GAAP knowledge, specifically in the new US GAAP revenue recognition standard
  • CPA preferred
  • 7-10 years of relevant work experience
  • Hospitality industry experience in a financial role is preferred
  • Strong organizational, communication and analytical skills
  • Excellent technical computer skills, including Microsoft suite, general ledger and financial reporting packages
  • Exposure to complex multinational corporate structures
