The Director of Licensing is responsible for actively resourcing licensing opportunities in categories that we are not currently associated with and that are a brand fit.  They cultivate and manage both internal and external relationships to build brand equity through our partnerships. With the ability to work collaboratively and influence, they champion Hard Rock’s position as a premium brand globally, ensuring that all external touch points related to licensing positively enhance the brand.  


  • Develop the vision and strategic objectives for licensing for Hard Rock International, ensuring that they protect and build brand equity and are linked to corporate strategic plans  
  • Work collectively with licensees in their development of strategic plans and revenue/royalty goals for Hard Rock  licensed products
  • Support licensees to ensure that our strong brand DNA is woven throughout their products and they complement the main line accordingly.
  • Educate licensees regarding Hard Rock’s history, philosophy and positioning in the market place; ensure licensees are complementary to our company culture.
  • Assess and prioritize new opportunities for licensing, collaborating with others to determine impact on current business and channels of distribution as part of the evaluation process.
  • Understand and be able to effectively navigate the global workplace.
  • Establish criteria and measurements to monitor success of licensees and provide quarterly reviews on how licensees are performing.
  • Understand what the market is bearing to identify royalty expectations for the brand and lead negotiation of royalty agreements that are beneficial to Hard Rock.
  • Develop and maintain a collaborative relationship with internal partners; specifically Sales, Merchandising and Design and Marketing.
  • Identify / leverage internal resources as needed to assist with execution of current licensing agreements and assessment of potential licensees.
  • Act as a facilitator for Hard Rock and our partners, ensuring regulations related to social compliance are understood and being met by the licensees; including but not limited to assessing risk, understanding standards and requirements and approving/reviewing locations
  • Responsible for developing and monitoring budget for licensing division.
  • Develop and improve processes to ensure licensed product meets Hard Rock brand expectations/positioning as well as meeting brand guidelines with licensees’ marketing programs and materials.
  • Participate and represent licensing division in the strategic planning process for the company and other corporate cross-functional initiatives.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related discipline is required.
  • 7+ years of experience in merchandising, sourcing or licensing with premium consumer facing brands.
  • Understanding and experience in working with global vendors.


  • Market expert with strong analytical skills to translate data/research into key insights for licensing.
  • Proven ability to develop, review and execute licensing agreements to meet goals and maintain brand equity.
  • Working knowledge of product merchandising, brand strategy and licensing processes.
  • Able to develop relationships and manage interactions to influence decision making.
  • Excellent negotiating and decision making skills, including working with ambiguity, resolving complex business problems, and having composure in difficult situations.
